Remembering the Riviera

Hi everyone, my name is Maya, I'm the author of Completely Coastal and A Beach Lovers Place and I am thrilled to be part of Fifi's French Riviera adventure! Growing up in Zurich, Switzerland my first memories of the French Riviera (aka Côte d’Azur) involve my parents, my sister and a big tent, meaning summer holidays were spent on Camp du Domain, a campground near Le Lavandou. Then later as an adult I vacationed with friends in Nice,
the Côte d’Azur’s cosmopolitan capital.

On the first trip we took the train, arriving at the train station Garede Nice. Like all other things the hotel was within walking distance. We would make our way down to the polished pebbled beach and rent parasoled lounges for the day...


... or we would stroll along The Promenade that stretches for miles along the Mediterranean sea and Nice's elegant roadway that is lined with chic hotels, boutiques and restaurants...


... and of course we would congregate, sipping lots of Café au laits and cocktails in the old town.

The next time we went by car, so we could drive the winding roads like Grace Kelly and Gary Grant in To Catch a Thief...

... and enjoy the breathtaking views from the village of Èze. Sweet memories of the past...

... that make me want to board a plane and go back. Perhaps a few nights at the Carlton in Cannes!
